Despite the many challenges we are facing in the world, I encourage you to remain positive and, if we support one another, there’s nothing that we cannot overcome.
One of my most precious memories of 2017 was hosting the first ever Elana Afrika’s Baby Brunch. The idea around it was to create an opportunity for parents to get together, and be inspired through sharing knowledge about parenting. This opened up a platform for many a conversation and we enjoyed some fun and pampering as well. As the saying goes, “it takes a village to raise a child”.
I am overjoyed to share some of the feedback on our inaugural event and some of these comments included:
“It was planned perfectly! I’m definitely attending the next one. And bringing new and old moms along!”
“I wish it could have lasted all day long so that none of the speakers felt rushed towards the end.”
“The event was stunning! If will be great if there are more stalls at the next one.”
“This was a morning that made me feel very special!”
“What a fantastic and much-needed idea! Well done.”
“All the speakers were outstanding and it was really hard to pick a favourite. I especially enjoyed the ‘real parents’’; they were the best.”
Some constructive criticism we received was that moms wanted some more time to interact with each other and, hopefully, spark some new friendships. So naturally, we are working on it!
That being said, planning is in full swing for another Elana Afrika’s Baby Brunch in October this year. Details will be released soon and it’s guaranteed to be another fantastic opportunity to learn, laugh, have fun and celebrate motherhood.
Beyond hosting an event, we want to build a community of support. We want to create a safe space for all of us to learn and share our experiences. So, we are delighted to announce that we are creating a support network all year long!
First, we are launching our podcast. With access to so many parents, brands and information, we would like to share these with you. This series of podcasts are relaxed and insightful conversations with ordinary parents doing extraordinary things. They can serve as source of support, inspiration and great advice for moms and moms-to-be as we delve into the unique experiences of diverse parents.
Our newsletter will also reach you on a monthly basis and it will be available at babybrunch.co.za, where you will also find loads of additional information, helpful tools and amazing giveaways! And, you can be part of our online community and contribute to conversations about parenting by following @BabyBrunchSA on Twitter and Instagram and liking our Facebook page, Elana Afrika’s Baby Brunch.
I want to extend a massive thank you to each and every one of you who attended our first event. We also had the best sponsors on board - without them it would not have been possible to host Elana Afrika’s Baby Brunch. A special thank you to Baby Bullet who is also supporting us this year. We will be sharing details on the Baby Bullet brings you Elana Afrika’s Baby Brunch soon! “A happy family is but an earlier heaven.” —George Bernard Shaw
